Welcome to my dog corner! I am Lexi, a 10-year-old dog whisperer from the UK. Dogs bring so much joy, and here I share my favourite training tips, fun facts, and daily stories about caring for our amazing furry best friends.

introduction

Getting a dog or puppy is a huge responsibility and every one that will be taking on the responsibility  will need a lot of knowledge and be prepared for the wonderful but difficult ride ! if you are not so sure or don’t think you are ready then read on to find out all the information you need to know to take the amazing and life changing responsibility into your hands .

Problem hunt :

If any of you amazing dog lovers have one of these problems then I would advise you not to take on the responsibility of having a dog because the dog would not be very happy or comfortable living in your home , but if you don’t have any of these problems then you are nearly good to go and can soon go find a breeder !!!

Problem 1 : If you or any of your family that lives with you don’t work from home ( so if you leave you home to go to work ) so that you are in the situation that no one is at home to be with your dog then having a dog would not be a very good idea , because the dog will be sad and will not feel comfortable being at home by them selves !!

Problem 2 : If you have not considered the cost of buying all essentials then you will definitely need to have a think about that because all dog essentials per year will be from £1,000 to £2,000 per year for standard care. However, depending entirely on the size, breed, and health of the dog . You need to understand how much this all adds up to .

Problem 3 : If you do not yet  have a clue about how the dog works or about what your dog would need to live or anything about the breed then I would highly recommend you to definitely learn more about the dog you would be potentially be getting .

My own how to doggy training for puppies : ( 3 simple tricks included )

How to Teach "Sit"

  • Lure with a treat: Hold a small, high-value treat close to your dog’s nose.
  • Guide backward: Slowly move your hand back over the dog’s head toward their tail.
  • Add the command: As their head tilts up and their bottom lowers to the ground, say "Sit".
  • Reward immediately: Give them the treat and praise the moment their rear touches the floor. [1, 2, 3]

How to Teach "Stay"

  • Start in a sit: Ask your dog to assume a "Sit" position first.
  • Use a hand signal: Extend one hand palm-out toward your dog (like a stop sign).
  • Give the cue: Say "Stay" firmly and clearly, then take one small step backward.

Release and reward: If they hold the position for even a second or two, step back, use a release word like "Okay" or "Free," and reward them. Gradually increase time and distance. [1, 2] Again the 1,2 is a simple video on how to teach this trick with further detail

How to Teach "Come"

  • Start in a safe space: Begin indoors or in a secure, enclosed garden with minimal distractions.
  • Call with enthusiasm: Say your dog’s name followed by "Come!" in an upbeat, excited tone.
  • Back away: Take a few steps backward or crouch down to make yourself inviting and fun.

Reward the arrival: When they reach you, give them a tasty treat and lots of affection so they learn coming back is always rewarding. [1, 2, 3, 4] as said before The 1,2,3,4  is a simple video on how to teach this trick with further detail
